"It may be possible to satisfy both those who prefer an email based
forum (myself included) and those who would prefer some other format
that does not arrive in their inbox.
Mailman (the list server that supports the homeroast list) has the
capability to copy messages sent to the email list to a news (NNTP)"

My reply:
John -- this is a fabulous idea! This seems to be the best of both
worlds: keep the content "pushed" to those who enjoy having the mail
come in their inbox, while allowing those of us who want more focused
discussion to focus it ourselves. Great thinking!

Ed, (and others)- lots of valid points here and I must admit, I
really like to keep this as an email list. Web boards have so many
advantages but like you Ed, I like this showing up in my homeroast
email box, alongside my other email boxes that contain MUCH less fun
topics. The perfect solution to me would be an interface between an
email list and a web board, where people could read and post in
either format and reach the whole readership. Erics forum board is
the best (and the fastest!) I have seen. I wonder if there is a use
for it to compliment the homeroast list in some respect. You know, I
was poking around our MailMan list software (Mailman is what runs
this list, a GNU freeware app that our host ISP uses instead of
majordomo) and it has a Mailman-to-Usenet gateway. Interesting
feature....

Holy smokes John - I need to read the ENTIRE thread before I post!!!
You know a lot more about this than I. I had never noticed the
feature before and havent gone to the gnu mailman site to read up on
it. By your description, I think this would be a very useful tool,
especially for the alties who want to read both. I will read up on
this feature...
