You're welcome. (same for others who have thanked for the pic posts) IRRC if
left unpruned coffee trees will get a good 30' tall with spindly branches
and lower crop yields. Also much harder to pick! Most Kona growers practice
a 3 or 4yr total prune down to about a foot cycle and then pick the 3
strongest shooters to grow out. Yields are greater with aggressive pruning.
The pic's from Kowali Estate showed some base *stumps* of 100yr old plus
trees. At least one grower is playing with trellised growing but don't know
how or if that improves the cup, didn't seem to make the cut in the
competition or didn't enter, I didn't check to find out. I'll go back and
add some labeling to the Kowali and Pele albums later...
