Much as the pictures of Hawaii have been beautiful, it's the footage of
the Syd & Jerrys that got my attention, sad that that probably makes
me... (and thanks miKe)
There seems to be a very high degree of agitation of the beans -
certainly more than just fluidisation, suggesting a large throughput of
air and high velocities, is this typical of S&Js ? I thought the
minimum airflow to fluidise and adequately mix the bean mass whilst
avoiding aroma stripping has been proposed as preferable. From the
photograph, the roast does look very even though.
Does anyone know anything of the design philosophies behind this
roaster ? I'm guessing the blower rate remains constant throughout the
roast. If you're interested in the profile, coffeekinetics.com has a
good graph, but not enough technical information to fully satisfy ones
curiosity.
