Has anyone seen the new electronic Mazzer Mini ?  It has a doser that 
looks suspiciously like an invention of Gin's.  But, neither here nor 
there this will definitely be the grinder that suits both the people who 
like the doser idea, but also don't like the idea of the ground coffee 
sitting in the chamber.

$600 with tax and shipping.  But how big of a doser do you need?  I 
figure hit grind, get exactly a double basket full (since it's 
adjustable), and brew.  Why a bigger doser?
I thought the point was that most people took the doser off?

estimating the time, perhaps taking the grind setting into account, it

Maybe they've improved it since I first heard about it -- I haven't

I like the doser on my MM because. Wouldn't think of taking it off. 
But, this is a bit of a religious issue, I think.

BTW, just for the record, I weigh and grind a single dose at a time, 
have the switch model, brush the grinds out of the shoot and into the 
bottom of the doser, and don't really find any of this to be annoying.

I may be mistaken, but I thought that the eMini had the big (64 mm) 
burrs in it.  I know the coffee that goes through my plain old Mini is 
constantly complaining about being underprivileged.

LOL.  Yep you are right, the burrs are 64 mm.  I have been using the MM 
with the doser in on.  I find it to be no problem to put in the beans 
that I now will make the amount of espresso or coffe that I am going to 
consume at the moment, grinding it all, and the sweeping it out.  I'm 
not sure how well this new one would work.  Hmm... I would love to have 
both to test which I would like better...

Nice point.  I didn't think about that.  I thought it was weird that 
they put the controls on the lid to the hopper.  It's certainly not as 
aesthetically pleasing that way.  I was thinking that it would have been 
much nicer to have had the buttons on the body of the machine.

opening.)
Of course, all of this is just speculation over whether the additional 
cost really buys the convenience it promises. What is really needed is 
a comparison by someone who has actually used both. Short of that, the 
best strategy might be to buy both and return one.

The electronic model was targeted toward small shops where leaving 
espresso unattended is desirable. (Too many leave espresso quality 
unattended too!) I tried one out and thought it was "nifty" but I 
really dont think it justifies the cost. A friend bought one for a 
shop and I think he wishes he had chosen the manual or timer model...
