This is my first post and I am not sure exactly what I am doing but hear goes. First off I want to thank all of you at Sweet Marias for giving me honest and accurate information in an altruistic manor about home roasting and coffee in general. I have gotten a great deal of joy out of roasting coffee for all my friends and family with my 1979 Westbend Poppery air popper. Thanks for a fun, rewarding and cheap Hobie.
My Brother Heath has turned down my offering to lend one of my now collection of three westbend popper roasters and said he is going to roast with a hot air gun. I can find a little info on the net about it but nothing to pass on. I think the air popper is probably the best cheap way to roast but he is pretty set on using his air gun. Does anyone have instructions I can pass on to my brother so he can start roasting? Jared

There has been a whole thread on heatgun/dogbowl roasting on the coffeegeek.com forums as well as on alt.coffee newsgroup. I would check there. I think there are also some HG/DB roasters here so they might help too.

There is an excellent primer on heatgun roasting at:
http://www.homeroaster.com/heatgun.htmlI started with a popper a couple months ago, but have really hit my stride
with the heatgun and dog bowl. I highly recommend it as an easy,
relatively inexpensive, and rewarding (in terms of quality and batch size)
means of roasting. It may not be the ultimate method, but with a bit of
research, it's a great place to start.
