I have ordered the 8 1/2 pd. sampler and have assembled some tools of the
trade so I'll let you know how my first cowboy roast goes. I am attempting a
cast iron
pan roast first with a side venture with a heat gun.

Been having a lot of fun searching thru your posts in the archives,
especially this from
DJ Garcia: "Aside for the obvious great coffee, roasting is a therapy thing.
I find watching
the beans going round & round like a wide-eyed idiot, taking in the
gradually changing aroma,
a most soothing and meditative experience after a hard day at work."

This is exactly what I am looking for, well said DJ.

I take great pleasure in watching those little beans dance and darken in the
glass cylinder of my roaster. In an increasingly abstract and confusing
world, it's just comforting to have an observable couple of cubic inches
where cause & effect are firmly localized and considerably less obscure. I
think 'meditative experience' is an appropriate description.
