Topic: Unofficial Blind Taste Test (4 msgs / 107 lines)

OK... My wife and daughter think I'm nuts, but I think you guys will
understand...
Since I was playing with my new vac pot, I decided to make a pot of
Columbian Mesa Del Los Santos that I roast for my wife using her Bunn drip
machine (with the restricted flow sprayhead) and in the vac pot. I used the
same amount of water and coffee in each. Then I took out two cups, and
asked my daughter to pour some of each cofee into a cup, and remember which
was which (and not tell me). I then tasted each coffee to see which I liked
better. Of course, I picked the vac pot coffee... But I had no idea which
cup my daughter poured it in. The drip coffee was good, but the flavor
wasn't as complete as the vac pot, if that makes sense. In particular, the
vac pot coffee has a flavor that hit me at the base on my tongue, on both
sides that the drip coffee didn't have. The vac pot coffee had a longer
lasting aftertaste as well.
One other thing that I learned... I don't like Columbian coffee as much as
the Rwanda, Bugisu, Arokara and Yemen I've been drinking lately...

I put more faith in these kinds of conclusions than I do the peer
reviewed scientific publications that publish things so professors like
me don't perish.
I reached the same conclusion without the blind cupping.

That Mesa de los Santos is the best I've found for dark
viennese roasts, so I always keep some in stock. For any other
roast I would usually prefer those other beans you mention.

Thanks, Charlie... I have enough left for one batch. I'll take it darker
to see what I think... I've been roasting it to full city so far...
