Topic: thermocouple for monitoring espresso temp (25 lines)
1) From: Jeffrey Pawlan
Some people have asked me which thermocouple I use for monitoring the
temperature of the water hitting the grinds in the espresso basket. I posted
this quite some time ago but this seller still has some left. They usually go
for around $12 for a bag of 5. You will need the type K connectors to finish
them.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category806&item819581203The thermocouple is welded and flattened for optimal surface conduction. It is
then sandwiched between fiberglass adhesive tape so that it can be attached to a
surface. I simply remove the adhesive tape and bend the thermocouple wire to
conform with the lip of the portafilter. The wires are 30AWG and insulated with
teflon.
I have no connection to this seller. I know that a tiny bead weld might have
a faster response time but these are really inexpensive. You can even cut them
into two pieces and have someone weld the second piece for you after you
tightly twist the two wires together. Then you will have 10 thermocouples.
