I've been having trouble making good coffee with my Alpinrost. I
attributed this to my newby status and a stash of dubious beans from an
un-named source who's initals are CC. Typically first crack, near as
I could tell, would come at about 12 min by the stopwatch, 2nd crack at
17 to 18 min. Quality of the product ranged from underdone at 17 to
charcoal at 18, not a lot of useable coffee anywhere in between. I
sipped so much awful brew I finally got a lb of Starbucks to use as a
reference point. And for breakfast.
The unit is hard to clean, and makes a mess of itself, so last week I
took it apart in great detail, and spent my evenings cleaning spooge
out of the crevices, got re-assembled this pm and started up a roast.
I loaded up with Bolivia Organic-Cenaproc Co-op, started the unit and
my stopwatch, and came in to watch the news. 4 minutes later it went
to first crack, and was into full rice-krispies mode at 7, I hit the
cool-down switch. Got a nice batch of beans here, I'll make coffee of
'em Saturday..
I'm wondering if there may have been something wrong with my roaster as
delivered. Anybody else heard of any such thing?
