For how long will freshly-roasted beans de-gas? I can't figure out if the seals on my vac-valved bags are failing or if the beans are still de-gassing after 48+ hours. Anyone else with similar/dissimilar experiences? -- jason z. moore graduate student computer music and multimedia composition brown universityhttp://www.badmonkey.org |
Jason, They will continue to outgas for several days. I seal with a FoodSaver and the little bricks become pillows before they finish outgassing. Jason Z. Moore wrote: <Snip> |

After that it tailed off significantly, although, I can't say for sure when it stops. At 48 hours post roast, I would say there is still some out-gassing taking place but not at a high rate. This describes perfectly what i am seeing. It looks as though the seal is not holding. From what I had read I thought that there would be no out-gassing past 24 hours.
