Topic: Tweak a Bunn (4 msgs / 100 lines)
1) From: Gregg Talton
At the wife's request I dusted off the Bunn and put it back on the
kitchen counter. Once the water had heated, I checked the temperature
at the "shower head" and it was 180 degrees. Does anyone know how to
adjust the temperature and get a little more heat out of this thing?
Thanks!
Gregg

Good Morning, Gregg... Its been a while since I've done open-Bunn
surgery, but I don't remember seeing a thermostat... There must be one
somewhere, but I don't remember seeing it. The heating element extends
into the water chamber from the top, and, as I recall, there is a metal
tube that goes down into the chamber. The thermostat mat be in there...
One thing you may want to do if you're going to use your Bunn with
home-roasted coffee... The standard Bunn showerhead allows the water
through prettu fast, and decaf coffee and fresh homeroast will overflow
the filter and you'll end up with grounds in the pot. If you go to the
Bunn web site http://www.bunn.com/pages/home/hmpartserv.html?OpenForm)
you can request a flow-restrictor which replaces the standard shower
head. It lengthens the time to make a pot of coffee to about 6 minutes,
but the results are much better! My Bunn was 7 years old when I made
the request and I received the restrictor in the mail in about two weeks
at no charge.

Thanks! I should have mentioned that I had already ordered the
restricted flow shower head. You're right, the results are much better.
At the time I wasn't home roasting but was buying really fresh coffee.
I'll probably empty the water this afternoon and begin the search for
the thermostat. Hopefully it will be adjustable.

IIRC when I looked years ago it was a fixed thermostats. I think I ended up
replacing it. But it was at least 10 years ago so my memory is fuzzy about
the actual details. Good luck with your mods.
