Topic: New P1 coil failure. (4 msgs / 66 lines)
1) From: Ben Treichel
Hey all,
The coil on my P1 failed by shorting itself to the lower loop; which
means most of the coil wasn't heating. Tried to 'unweld' the two, and of
course the coil broke. Since its only a (short) matter of time to it
failing again if you stretch and attach I decided that it was time to
pull out my backup (virgin) P1.
Took it apart to disable the bi-metallic thermostat and discovered that
someone had performed a coil - ectimy on it before donating it to the
thrift store. Hummpf!!
Anybody come up with an alternative source for p1 coils or materials?
Ben

I believe you can create a new heating element with NiChrome wire. Being
electrically challenged, I have no idea what length to use or which gauge.
I just remember something like this came up earlier in the year.

Check in the archives under the thread "WBP1 --- Help!"
There are a few sources listed within the thread.
