What about a fifth variant:
FROM:  abcde
FROM:  [insert "stripped off" identity format here]
What happens if no "nice" name exists?

By "nice" name, I mean something of the form
FROM: My Nice Name 
   or
FROM: "My Nice Name" 
So no "nice" name would probably be of the form
FROM: user
Which would display as:
FROM: user
If none of these match, I display:
From:
