Michael,
    I did contact Alpenrost and they sent me a new one. They said there was
no history of that problem, at least at that time which was about twenty
months ago. I did have to wait for a "new shipment" but it didn't take very
long. I also had a good response when the second one failed. It died
completely in the middle of a roast so it didn't melt; I even saved the
coffee since it had started cooling. Fortunately, I do monitor the roasting.
When the first one died I also contacted SM and they were very helpful as
well. 
            On a different subject, can someone tell me why what looks like
the HTML code is reprinted after my submissions. I apologize for my
ignorance that makes the lists longer and more difficult to read.
