Hosted an end of summer Luau today for some of my co-workers. Even kicked it up a notch or two from the PNWI Luau. (Made virgin and the real deal Mai Tai this time. Two gallon punch bowl filled with a 5th white Myers and half 5th Dark Myers Rum all gone. Never hand juiced 20 limes before! Plus orange & pineapple juice & orgeat of course! About half the gallon virgin left:-) After the Luau dinner made 4 vac pots of Kona (50oz Evac pot and 25oz Evac pot each brewing simultaneoulsy then both reloaded) to go with the pineapple macadamia nut upsidedown coconut rum cake & haupia desserts. Blend of 3 parts Kona Mountain Fancy and 1 part Koa Peaberry. A co-worker said he hated coffee but tried a cup and loved it. Another co-workers Asian wife said she only likes tea but tried a cup and said this isn't coffee this is good! Many oohs and ahhs all evening for food and beverage (both Mai Tai and Kona coffee), a very satisfying party. Quite a number of requests for recipes but to me maybe the most surprising was the number who wanted the recipe for my Okinawa sweet potatoes. (Baked two hours in coconut milk and finished last half hour with chopped mac nuts on top. Omitted any sugar this time, doesn't need or want it. Just sea salt & cracked pepper before the coconut milk goes on.) Back to clean up... Well, the entire List was invited to both the PNWI&II SM List Gatherings 2003&4. And is again for PNWIII in 2005, who ever ends up hosting. Regardless the location I'll be bringing a number of dishes. As will Zara and AlChemist John too I'm sure who's culinary skills are not to be taken lightly. Then again, I also know there are East Coast, Southern, Mid-America etc. List members quite capable in a multitude of culinary styles. Just a matter of someone(s) deciding to do it on the other side of the US. Drinking a first mug of the morning 5+5 Americano of the last week bit of the batch Kona Mountain Fancy now at 5 days rest, had roasted it for the Luau so it'd just be hitting peak rest of 4 days and it was.
