I just wanted to introduce myself and describe some of my coffee
roasting related objectives.
I'm an electronics experimenter from the old vacuum tube days. My
current interest is mostly in PIC microcontrollers and especially the
PICAXE controller. I've been roasting coffee for almost a year now.
I've tried Heatgun-dogbowl, cowboy stovetop, and BBQ drum. I'm
currently designing and collecting parts for a small drum roaster
that is similar to a scaled down commercial drum roaster with a front
pannel (beans go in - beans come out and the drum stays put).
I'm also interrested in designing a microcontrolled corn popper based
sample roaster. Two primary usecases are 1. Roasting for cupping
(small amount, very repeatable roast) 2. Bracket roasting small roast
batches of various roast levels to determine how dark I prefer a
particular bean to be roasted. I'm not real sure about the user
interface, but I want it to be as simple as practical (most process
controllers are more difficult to setup than programming the
proverbial VCR). What are the minimum parameters? Exactly what needs
to be controlled and when?

Hey, I'm actually awaiting a atmel mega. StAVeR-40M32 with Motherboard
(LCD, Piezo & cables included)http://www.lawicel.com/staver/staver40m32.htmabout $130, but has all of the functionality I need. Going to use
BASCOM-AVR to avoid having to mess witha r/t os.
Wandering John is using the same board, but won't thouch ms stuff, so
he's linux.
I would like to get to about a 1kg drum setup myself.

I'm working that out via protyping on my pc using matlab / simulink.
Going to have 4 tc's in the system for now. However it might only take
one. We'll see.
Gotta run, packing to leave before 5am to catch a plane.
Ben
