For home use I like the mugs my wife makes. She is a potter, and can
make them to order. My favorite one that she makes is glazed fully on
the inside and just at the top on the outside. She mixes 2 kinds of
clay, a brick red and a white so they form a layered effect where
there is no glaze on the outside. Kind of nice looking.
Fires them to cone 10, and puts custom designs on them. 
I have one of my jimmy towing a jeep out of a ditch in the desert (he he). 
She is also into crystal glazing. That is a technique of growing
crystals in the glaze as it fires. No two mugs ever alike.
