Topic: Off topic help with new espresso machine; anyone own a Francis? (2 msgs / 45 lines)

Hello,
I bought an espresso machine that supposedly was originally purchased from
Williams and Sonoma. Yesterday I disassembled and cleaned it and it is built
pretty well. It makes nice espresso but here's the problem; it is set up for
pods which wouldn't be too bad if I didn't roast my own coffee and can't
make pods! So, I've been looking for a "ground coffee" retrofit kit for it
but haven't had any luck, so far. The machine is made by an Italian company
called SGL Essegielle and it is a modelo: Bar Plus. I can find a similar
unit sold in Europe called the Prima Bar. Here's a linkhttp://www.essegielle.it/eng/prodotti/primabar.htmlfor a machine that,
except for the visible group mechanism, is identical to my machine.
Anyway, I measured the portafilter and it is 56mm inside. The group head has
an O ring on the outside that the inside of the portafilter seals to. The
brass circular group head is 55mm outside diameter. Looking on the web, a
FrancisFrancis x3 or x5 might have that size portafilter. Does anyone own
one that could measure the portafilter for me? How big is an E61 group? I
can't find a store locally that carries Francis machines or I would carry my
calipers in and measure it.
BTW, I ordered a small motor from the Surplus Center link. The number is
5-1274. It is a 4.8 RPM 115 VAC 1/50 HP and I'll see if it will fit in place
of the Stir Crazy motor. I'd guess it would work pretty well as a rotisserie
motor for the RK drum.
David.

you could always make your own pods, here's how:http://ineedcoffee.com/04/coffeepods/On Wed, 8 Dec 2004 17:16:53 -0500, David O. Desmarais
