Hi Ed,
Proof of concept! I like that!
Controls.. It may be smarter to use Variacs for the heaters, and just
plug the motor directly into AC, unless someone can reprogram the
electronics to do a coffee profile :) Then the bread machine heater
could be used, run the profile with the original heater computer
controlled...just use the GG to bias a slow temperature increase.. wow.
Who needs PID anyway?
Stirrer can use some development, and more care taken with the exterior
shell.
So far the only real control is the Digital Thermocouple, and I turn the
heater on and off with the thermostat.
Already I have noticed that different sized roasts take different times,
and affect the TC reading. Smaller roasts seem to read closer to true
bean temp than the larger ones. I can hear the first cracks easily, but
the second cracks need paying close attention to. After reading about
the Iroast, this is not abnormal.
There is still the hi temp fuse to kill the whole unit if it overheats..
Never thought this would be a commercial roaster building adventure,
just something to supply customers with fresh roasted if the demand
develops. It would never pay me to roast in a Popper to supply several
pounds a week, but with this I can do 3 lbs an hour easily, so my prices
may get competitive with G*****a.
My coffee is already miles ahead of them, but people still think price.
Thank you for the offer of hosting the pictures. I will send you the zip
file. I really need to get my own site so I can make changes and
additions easily.
