Topic: New Coffees, the Yemens (24 lines)

I just roasted the two new Yemen's last evening, both in my I-Roast. The
first roast on the Yemen Mokha Ismaili was bizarre. I have my I-roast vented out
the window and the chaff collector became loose, and besides chaff blowing
around the I-roast lost temp fast. I ended up holding it together with my hands
(and Kevlar gloves -- which were getting pretty hot). Obviously I was
distracted, roast went a bit longer than usual, but dumped at the 2nd crack --- few
pops in -- can't be sure, but the beans looked Full City, but pretty sure I
was at Full City Plus.
Couldn't wait to try it, and it was great this morning already. Blueberry
both in taste and aroma. I was very pleased. I know last year's was supposed
to be better, and probably was, but this one sure did not disappoint. It
wasn't long ago that I roasted the last of the 2003 batch, and didn't get the
blueberry -- but that was in my manual popper -- more like a drum profile -- so
perhaps this benefited from the air roast.
Also roasted the Yemen Mokha Bany Matar, under better conditions in the
I-Roast, and took it to Full City Plus, few snaps of the 2nd -- and that too was
wonderful this morning. Lots of fruit but no blueberry, which was fine. These
are two nice coffees given my first impression and delighted to have them.
Thought I'd pass it on.
