We had planned to go on Friday then I took a look at the website and
discovered that it would cost $60 each or $120 for the two of us just to
get into the exhibition hall. Sorry, I would like to see everybody but I
can buy a LOT of coffee for $120.
Regards,
Ruth

In April of this year, I joined the SCAA as a c-member and signed up
for the Roasting Guild. It took them months to mail me a c-member
card, but they have yet to activate my membership. I can not log on to
the members only part of their site, get a discount on purchases,
etc... I have yet to get anything on the Roasting Guild. Every time I
call, I get bounced around from office to office and eventually hung
up upon. Email tag is even less productive with the SCAA offices.
People I know who joined the Barista Guild and obtained a c-membership
have been treated even worse. Their c-memberships ran out and they
even got their c-cards. At this point, I figure I am going to be
calling the Better Business Bureau and see what my options are at this
point.

Don't lose heart, SCAA have and continure to do great things for coffee.
I've found that Maria Curiel is very responsive to
emails.
The SCAA has gone through some severe disruption in the last year or two,
hopefully
they will get their act together.
As I recall Fortune Elkinshttp://bccy.blogspot.com/index.html(you have to jump through some spam stopping hoops to get in touch)
is the C member point of contact so she may be able to help you also
especially re access to the members only part of the site.
I am unaware of such a section, all I saw was discounts for members.
Disocunts are basde on your c member number as I recall so with the number
off the card you should be able to get those.
Most of the SCAA forums are open to anyone, sadly as can be seen by the
spam on some sections, but you need to sign up separately.
The Roasters Guild members forum is certainly closed to the public but a lot
of, if not most, discussion goes on in the public board. If your membership
is confirmed I'd take it up with one of the moderators on the public board.http://bbs.stoneworks.com/rgbbs/index.phpHope this helps,
Johnny

Elaine, exactly for situations like yours I decided years ago to form a New
Company, as I was studying aviation electronics.
There were chapter and verse of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules
and regulations to be followed in every facet of the work. That inspired the
FAA Company. We make gum.

Hello all...
I'm excited. I just joined the SCAA as a consumer member and registered for
the conference.
I will only be able to go Sat and Sun...and will take a beginners roasting
workshop and a
cupping workshop. Anyone else attending?

Hi Dean,
Very cool! I did the same thing a few weeks ago and registered for several
classes. I'm taking the beginning and intermediate roasting sessions (among
others). I forget the exact dates but maybe we'll be in the same class. I
think it'd be fun to meet up with some other list members at the conference.

I'm going to the SCAA sat and sun on a whirwind tour with my wife. I'm taking the intro roasting class sat in the afternoon and the cupping class sun morning.
If anyone is going...email me off list to exchange cell numbers. Perhaps we can meetup and get dinner sat night or something like that. I believe brian zambrano said that he was going.

Dean,
Are you trying to use a mail application through a remote wi-
fi? If so, the ISP for the remote wi-fi would be rejecting your
email address. To post away from home, I usually go to the web mail
interface for the ISP that has my email account.

I've just woken up to the fact that SCAA is nearby me this year- in Portlan=
d. The "events hall" 3 day pass to see events like the barista champions=
hip is $10, but the trade show exhibit hall access is $115 for a single day=
. A full pass is $1400.
Is there much here for a home roaster? $1400 would fund a lot of experim=
entation. In fact so would $115.

I went last year and collected lots of samples of bags, giveaways, and
stuff. A free pour-over code (pink ugh)...
Sampled a lot of coffee.
Intelligentsia was great - my wife drank a shot black and loved it. That's
something I can't do... :(
Fortunately my entrance ticket was free. Paid a small fee for my wife to
attend with me.
As a hobbiest I did not get as much (intellectually) out of just wandering
around as I hoped. But it was exhilarating.
If you really want to learn from it there are classes to add on for
additional $$.
