Topic: Tradition Offering: Aged Java "Old Brown" (4 msgs / 125 lines)
1) From: Sharon Allsup
The incredible pen from Les that Ginny offered up arrived this
afternoon ... WOW. It kicks butt; it is soooo beautiful. Hubby's
trying to call 'dibs' on the pen, but I'm not sure I love him *that*
much. Darling husband walked into the house with the mail right as I
was going through the coffee cabinet looking for a suitable Offering
:)
I am offering up about 3/4ths a pound of "Old Brown" Aged Java (it's
lighter than regular coffee, so if you roast by weight you might need
to tweak a bit). Even after a few years in a cotton drawstring bag,
it's still a smokey and in-your-face aged coffee. I've been rationing
this stuff, roasting maybe one batch a month as a treat for my
husband, because I've not seen it offered through Tom for some time.
Drawing will be sometime Tuesday night (3/1), so as to give a chance
to those who don't read the list over the weekends. The winner will
be picked by my LEGO Mindstorms robot that generates binary search
algorithms & cryptographic keys by flipping an Othello chip and taking
a light reading off the downward-facing side to produce a single bit
value (hey, I was desperate for a cryptography class project, and
hubby wanted an excuse to buy Lego Mindstorms).
It seemed fitting, since this was the coffee that I posted about
having been forgotten about so it rested 2.5 weeks and tasted even
better than before, which ended up being a discussion about marriages
& coffee LOL ... and it was the message I wrote immediately before
emailing Ginny to be on the list for the pen tradition :)

I'm extending this through Wednesday evening, since the list was down
over the weekend.

Hi Sharon.
I'd like to withdraw from your tradition offering.
Please don't be offended, but since I just won the
digital scale, I wouldn't want to tempt fate by being
declared the winner of your offering too. I can only
imagine the wrath of the rest of the coffee roasting
list, once they discovered I had won 2 draws in a row!
;-)

Hey Norm, IMO reconsider your withdrawal! I've been a List member for 4yrs
or so and it wouldn't bother me, 'tis the luck of the draw. It may well be
your only chance at an opportunity to experience that funky Old Brown Java.
