Topic: Advice on bits for my latest machine. (9 msgs / 214 lines)

Hello all
My new (used) gaggia coffee showed up yesterday.

I could use some suggestions on bits to trim it out.

1) Portafilter basket - Suggested options... looks like I've got a
single insert here.
2) Steam wand - I read somewhere that a silvia wand will fit
this... I'm not a big fan of the funky plastic thing.
3) Cleaning - Reccomended descaler for this machine (no 3 way
valve)

Thanks!

Haskell,
I am getting real familiar with the Gaggia line up, and I bought the
lowest priced entry level machine, the 'Espresso model' a couple of
months back.
1) PF basket, I have a true double basket, that came with my machine,
along with the single shot/ ese pod 'adapter'. You can get a new
basket for about 10 bucks.
2) Steam wand. I removed the plastic one 10 minutes after I opened up
the box to my machine! You really don't need it, IMO.
3) Clean Cafe is what I've heard mentioned that most people use. What
model Gaggia did you get? I'm at work, but if you email me off list, I
might be able to send you an online owners manual, or find you a few
links to helpful sites that I've got book marked on my home computer!
4) I'm really happy with my little $117.50 eBay Espresso machine...but
be warned that it just made me addicted to great espresso! And now I
really want a big shiny heavy chrome plated monster machine, more than
ever!

You can get a double, and I fully recommend it - All I use my single for is=

a place to set my Thor Tamper when not in use. You can even get a triple
basket, although I think you have to go crotchless to use it.
Do you have a good tamper yet? You will need that also - the little plastic=

things don't work.

Okay, I need to clarify...
I'm looking for someone to point me in the right direction for which
basket to buy where, a lot of people seem to whack whatever they can in
there.

I'm actually happy with the builtin steam wand now, minus the plastic
part.

Les is making me a 58mm Thor right now...

I have an extra double basket that might fit. I can check it out with
Alchemist maybe. If it does I'll send it with the tamper.

Just talk to Les. He got me my triple basic and I am pretty sure he knows=

where to find all the baskets as he needs them to fit the tampers to them.
