Jim Gundlach here, I'm now back after burying my mother. I've not kept up with posting for the past ten or twelve days so I don't know what's transpired. When I left, there was a thread about material that could be used to make a canister to add to a BBQ rotisserie to roast beans in. Did anyone find a source for such material? If not, I'll pick up looking where I left off. When I was in Oklahoma City, I tried the coffee at a chain called Panera, it apparently spun off the St Louis Bread Company. They have passable espresso, reminds me of Tom's classic espresso blend. It was reasonably fresh and no hint of a robusta flavor. I would guess the beans were roasted well into the second crack but not burnt like star$. They have locations in 29 states so when traveling they might be worth looking for. I only tried the one location and I can't vouch for the coffee at their other locations but it would be worth a try if you are stuck some place that has one and you don't know of any place better. Their breads and rolls are wonderful. I also picked up some mesquite wood that I will use to make the smoke for roasting some beans over a wood fire later today. A word to the wise. Welcome back to homeroast, Jim. Wow, just 10 days ago I wrote you when you said you were going to attend to your mother. We can't all die so predictably. Now that I'm about to be 77, it occurs to me more and more often what vagaries there are to the process of ending life. As I said, before, you have my condolences. -- Jerry Green jim gundlach wrote: <Snip> homeroast mailing listhttp://lists.sweetmarias.com/mailman/listinfo/homeroast
Hi All, First, thanks for all of the kind words and support, both on-list and off list. Myron gets the farthest, and most religously diverse awards for his greetings (unless the Scarlet Wombat drank a scotch in honor of my father). My dad is doing spectaculy well after having to wait till monday to have his by-pass operation (5 bypasses). I just drove them from Veags to his house in Lake Havasu, AZ this afternoon. I have to wait to Monday to fly back from Vegas to home due to flight avaiability. My Dad and our family thank you for all of the prayers and good wishes, and credit God for listening to you all. Ben

Barry if it's anything like when I had my gizzard removed, the narcs they have you on for pain, and any antibiotics are doing it to you. if they put you under, the anesthesia they use leaves a lasting effect for a few days too. The narcs shouldn't do it too much, or if they do, you won't give a crap heh.... antibiotics will definately kill the flavor of anything. once you get off theses drugs if you are on them, your taste will come back to normal. I hate to give a time since everyone is different but oh, week or so at worst??? good luck and glad to hear your surgery went well.... Aaron
It's the Anesthesia. No antibiotics and am off narcotics able to manage my pain with Tylenol for the first time in a year. Coffee tastes so foul cant even stand to smell it. Am roasting today for my wife. Hope I will be able to drink it again when it peaks.
Suddenly Road Runner started ignoring the list. After 2 weeks I realized it was time to go to G mail. I think I am back. Will know if I receive this.
