Just finished roasting my last half pounder of the 20# Sumatra Mandheling "Classic" 03 Lot4365 received and greens vac sealed 4/26/03, what an excellent Sumatra it's been! FWIW 12:05 BB profile FC 445°f about 5 to 10°f before 2nd roast. I usually alternate between Sumatra and all other Indos about weekly roasts. Sumatra stash now down to 4# Gayo Mountain 7/12/04, 4.5# Lintong 4/6/05 & 5# Gayo Mountain 5/9/05. Many other Indonesians in stash but that's it for Sumatras! (I know, who cares;-) Today also roasted halves of Wood's Estate Kona 03/04 City+ (down to 2.5# and still my #1 Kona just edging Moki's), Aussie Skybury FC and next off to Light FC roast Guatemalan Antigua Finca Filadelfia... Never tried "Classic." How does it compare to Iskandar 3pick, my current favorite Sumatra. Not that it matters any more, since it is gone :-). --- miKe mcKoffee wrote: <Snip>http://sweetmarias.com/maillistinfo.html#personalsettings<Snip> ">http://lists.sweetmarias.com/mailman/listinfo/homeroast<Snip>http://sweetmarias.com/maillistinfo.html#personalsettings<Snip> Do you Yahoo!? Can't say. I haven't tried one of the "clean" tasting triple pick Sumatras since '02 IRRC. At least, that was my impression of the triple pick Sumatras back then, too clean a taste. I prefer a more classic Sumatra taste with a bit of earthy funk (not dirty). The Mandheling Lot 4365 '03 Tom dubbed "Classic" I bought 20# strictly trusting the review and was not disappointed. Gayoland also usually hits the mark just right, the 04 certainly does, haven't roasted any of the 05 yet. I found the 05 Lintong a bit on the clean tasting side but with enough Sumatra "earth" to be a worthwhile Sumatra companion to the Gayoland. There are other Indonesian coffees I prefer for a more refined cleaner Indonesian cup profile like Bali Shinzan, Papua New Guinea and Timor (currently out of Timor, should get some more too 'cuz it's 'bout my favorite to roast to FC++ not quite Vienna and mix with 1/4 chickory for 'Nawlins style press pot). And always have Sulawesi in stash too, seems somewhere inbetween. IMNSHO, day and night. The triple pick is almost too clean for my tastes in a Sumatran. The Classic is NOT that, but woody, dusty, earthy, full and= broody.
