Topic: Alternative Plumbing for Andreja (26 lines)
1) From: Jack Cowen
I have read the reviews of the Andreja and am definitely envious. I
have a Nuova Simonelli Oscar that I bought used. After several bouts
with the pressure relief valve popping off (think of hissing), I finally
got it repaired and the machine has worked flawlessly for several
months. Unlike Andreja and many other machines, the Oscar does not even
have a way to see the water level in the reservoir except by opening a
hinged door on top and peering down into the mouth of the reservoir. My
machine sits on a counter adjacent to the fridge, so I cut a tee into
the ice maker water tube (just above the water filter) and ran a tubing
line over to the wall behind Oscar, where I mounted a little valve.
From the valve, I have about 18 inches of tubing - enough to go into
the mouth of the reservoir. To refill, I simply insert the tube into
the reservoir and turn on the little valve - voila, filtered water in
the reservoir. Seeing the water level is no easier, but now it's so
easy to refill, that I do it often. I worry that the ice maker tubing
(clear plastic) might rupture sometime when I'm out and flood the house,
but so far so good. I'm not sure what the plumbing kit for Andreja
looks like, but it probably involves running copper or plastic tubing
from some source. Does the kit also have a drain system? Best wishes
to all. Jack
