First Brett, no need to apologize, no offense taken! Actually I agree
mounting the PID internally with display flush to front looks better. I
looked at both internal and external PID mounting pictures others had done
years ago. I too thought external mounting just didn't look "good". But
having worked in computer field support and maintenance for a couple decades
I have real concerns mounting a PID internally on Miss Silvia. The
temperature of the boiler is around 230f for shots and when sitting idle,
up well over 300f for steam. Knowing the max rated operating temperature of
CPUs is in the 180f range (varies by CPU of course) I knew I didn't want
the PID mounted internally in close proximity to the boiler. Of course the
internal ambient temperature of Silvia would not be the same or as high as
the surface boiler temp, but still up there. Adding shielding around the PID
like Pepe' did wouldn't really get the internal heat much lower I don't
think, just slow the temp rise around the PID. But the temp would still
eventually rise to the same levels shielding or no shielding without active
cooling of PID like adding a fan and ventilation.
This left me to conclude the PID would be more reliable and last longer
mounted externally. I didn't like the looks so didn't do it for a long time.
Temp surfing Miss Silvia for 3 years changed my esthetic point of view. I
didn't call anywhere and confirm recommended intallation temperature before
buying but my reasoning was confirmed. The Fuji PXR3 manual gives it's
designed operating temperature as -10 to 50C (122f).

Hi Mike, and all,
I was not intending trying to comment on all the great implementations of
PID's on Silvias... I WAS hoping to learn if anyone has found a way not to
change the basic presentqation shape of the Silvia - now I know that is
Pepe....
She's a beauty, a veritable dragster if you will... But I am gauging what I
can get away with placing on the counter in my home, and that won't fly....
thus the question... I guess this explains why I was asking for pictures....
Apologies to anyone to whom I gave offense in the PID realm... Sorry
Mike....
