Great question! I used a straight edge to swipe PF level for over two years
after seeing it done that way by Dr. John (Joshuma - Malabar Gold, used
popcicle sticks!) I switched to the finger after our visit with Chris at
Stumptown a couple months ago and after more reading on the subject. Theory
is using your finger allows you to feel and hence better control the grinds
distribution. I was skeptical, thinking but my finger isn't straight so how
can I get a good level swipe! Well, I gave it a try anyway and have liked
the results.

I've been using a straight edge but notice there is always a
channel or two (holes) in the puck no matter what. So I will
go back to using the finger method and see what happens. Thanks.
