Hi Mike (and Michael),
Thanks for your quick replies.
I just (so I need a spankin) tried another shot or three.
I set the Mazzer so it ground a bit coarser than last time, and heated
everything up and filled the PF so that when tamped (still plastic
thingie) there was no mark on the top of the puck.
Turned on the pump and lots of steam blew through the pf, and of course
the shot tasted very bad, and the gasket leaked again.
I used the rest of what I had ground, and tried again.
The pf was about half full.
This is not a good idea.
Worse shot than last time.
No crema and weak like tea.
Happy to dump the last two shots, sorry I tasted them.
Well, honest, I can deal with seepy leaks. So I ground enough for
another shot.
By now the PF is just barely warm, but now I have the amount to put in
figured correctly.
Still plastic tamping, and the pf is still leaking out the top under
pressure ( kind of like a secondary by pass pressure regulator), but
mostly crema with this shot.
Can't comment on the stuff that dripped onto the counter.
Still not timing shots, no point really, with the thing leaking like it
does. Took about 20 seconds though I think.
It was almost as good as with my Estro, so there really is hope. Steamed
some milk, add a bit of sugar, and a not too bad latte.
No other water on the counter from other leaks as far as I can tell, so
I will definitely descale and do the next steps to stop the leaks.
PF gasket.
Even if it needs a new boiler, it could be a good deal.
It looks like it is worth it for a first semi good machine.
Remember, I am dreaming of an Andreja.
This Baby is a lot above the Estro Vapore I got for five bucks. Of
course I paid twice as much for this one, so I guess it should be better.
Now I see I am getting into maintenance, which will run well over the
cost of the machine.
Just have to remember that maintenance expenses go along with the $1500
machines also.
It is just a smaller percentage of the initial cost with them.
BTW, who is WLL and EPNW? Too bad Tom doesn't stock these parts.
