A bit of background here:
I've had to start using a pretty stong fan while roasting to keep the
smoke out of my neighbor's apartment. Because of this, it's been harder
to achive good roasting temperatures. I've been thinking of ways to
replace my tin can with something better at holding heat.
Inspired by Fred's recent posting about his awesome drum roaster, I came
up with a "fancy can" with a cone-like top. I've got pictures up on
flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/konkers/sets/558419/). It seems to
do the job nicely. I was able to bring three 150 gram batches to 2nd
crack no problem. Total cost was ~$17 of materials from home depot (I
already had a rivet popper, tin snips, and drill press). There are
enough materials left over to make 6 or more of these with just buying
more washers.
If anyone's interested in the plans, let me know and I'll post a link.
Cheers,
    Erik
