Just a note to those who may have been put off or shocked by the
$8.90 # for this coffee: It's very good.
RK Drum roasted some early yesterday morning, and last night it
provided a creamy, almond cup with some chocolate. I'm really not
good about describing coffee tastes, but it seems to me to be a
"full" cup that has a balance between fruit at the front of the mouth
and custard/cream at the back. After a rest of 24 hours, I felt it
had less almond than what I remembered from last night's cup. I think
this will be a favorite of mine. There is more body here than in
Colombian Mesa de los Santos, which I like a lot (and have a tiny bit
left), but ithe Santos is more medium-bodied in my way of thinking.
This is more full-bodied and richer/deeper. I had half a pot left, so
I put it in the refrigerator and had iced coffee with it. Amazing! It
holds the almond flavor cold, too.
First crack was strong and long-lasting which I assume is due to the
moisture content in the beans. I got second crack 3.5 minutes later,
and pulled the drum at the beginning but didn't get the latch open
for at least 45 seconds and 2nd was going strong anyway. I'd call the
roast a Full City+. There was no oil on the beans and they don't look
like a dark dark roast. Next roast will be a melange of City and Full
City (definitely want to stop before 2nd this time!)
