Topic: 1st mid-Atlantic gathering (at least at my house) (14 msgs / 335 lines)
1) From: Tara Kollas
Okay - it's been a little quiet from my side of things (lousy weekend in
which my mom broke a bone in her leg, a friend's 4 year old had an accident=

all over our stairs and the air conditioning went out). Mom got a nice
bright blue walking cast, the stairs have been cleaned, and the fuse has
been replaced.
 Soooo.
Just to remind everyone - there's an open invitation to come to my house=

for coffee, food, coffee, food, and more coffee. Not sure of the head count=

yet. But if you're able and interested, please let me know if you can make=

it and I can email directions off list.
When - Saturday, September 10 from 1:00 until whenever
 Where - Lemoyne, Pennsylvania - 45 minutes north from Gettysburg, 3 hours=

east of Pittsburgh, 1 hour 45 minutes west of Phillie (give or take an hour=

for traffic on the Sure Kill Expressway), and 5 minutes across the river
from Harrisburg (which, okay, I've never been clear on the direction - the=

river supposedly runs north-south, so we'd be west, and we're on the west=

shore, so that would make sense, but everything I know about the rising and=

setting of the sun says otherwise).
Very informal, and the munchkins will be elsewhere for their afternoon
naps, so it will be a toddler-free event, although the toddler has become=

fascinated with the espresso process and wants me to make her coffee in her=

monkey cup - just in from Sweet Maria's. I may take her up on it one
morning. Can't make her any worse than the mornings my MIL gives her
pancakes with 1/2 cup of Log Cabin syrup.
So come one, come all. Hope to see lots of you in a few weeks!!!

Mickie and I will be there - we have reservations at the Country Inn &
Suites by Carlson on Jonestown Rd in Harrisburg. Decent senior rates...
$76.49 Sat nite and $71.99 Sun nite. I think the AAA rate is the same.
We're gonna stay over and do the Hershey thing Sunday and leave Monday.

Tara,
Thank you so much for taking this on.
It so happens that on that day my wife and I will be returning to DC
from Hazleton, PA, visiting her parents. Stopping at Lemoyne would be
an enjoyable break on our journey home. And it would be wonderful to
put faces on the names in this list.

Jerry - I think the best directions for you would be to take 81 south to 83=

south (towards Harrisburg/York). Take the 1st exit after you cross over the=

river (Lemoyne exit 42). Turn right at the intersection after you exit. Thi=
s
is 3rd street in Lemoyne. Turn left onto Market Street in Lemoyne (the
police station will be in a brick building across from you with a bank on=

the opposite corner). Turn right on 9th street, right before the Goodyear=

station.
You'll go through two 4-way stops, the second coming at the top of a hill.=

Turn left on Woodland.
Turn right on Hilltop.
Our house is the last one on the right - 860 Hilltop Road in Lemoyne. My
number is (717) 731-4797. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Hi, Mike - let me know what direction you're coming from and I can get you=

directions. Or you can try Mapquest - the address is 860 Hilltop Road in
Lemoyne, PA 17043. I think Mapquest has Market Street listed as Walnut
Street for some reason, but I usually have to take their directions with a=

grain of salt. Is there anything in particular your wife would like to have=

instead of coffee? We have the opposite end of the spectrum with caffeine=

free diet pepsi as well as wine, tea (can't vouch for the quality, since I=

don't drink tea often), beer and Mike's Hard Lemonade (a personal favorite)=
!

 Tara,
I really wish I still lived in Syracuse, NY as it sounds like an event not=

to be missed!
I'm one of those guys that won't stop and ask directions...that's why I own=

a couple of GPS's ;-)
But thought that this link could help you out!

I rely on google earth, these days to search my area for antique and thrif=
t
stores for poppers and vac-pots...One of these days I'm going to score one=

of those giant sized 1860's coffee grinders at a garage sale :-O

Hey, my sister-in-law went to Syracuse - although I think she pretty much=

drank her way through college and doesn't remember much. She actually got=

credit for taking a class on wine tasting of all things.
The google map is very cool - I've had mixed luck with mapquest - sometimes=

told to go the opposite direction. Of course that's no-where near as bad as=

relying on my mom. She sent me into a truly scary part of Phillie once - sh=
e
was coming from the opposite direction and didn't stop to think that her
right would have been my left. Yikes!

Hello all - just an update. Made a huge batch of baklava Sunday and made up=

a batch of biscotti last night (will be part of the Italian semifreddo I'll=

make tonight). Friday, I'll pick up the brats to cook in sauerkraut and bee=
r
(that will be Saturday's cooking). So now I just need to come up with
something to cook on Wednesday and Thursday. Of course, I can roast coffee!=

I'm going to take stock of my stash and report to everyone what I have in=

case we want to try anything or in case anyone has a suggestion for
blending.
Tara

12) From: Tara Kollas
Hello all - I checked my stash and have 1 pound or more of each of the
following (except the Kona, which is about 1/2 pound):
 Monkey Blend
Panama Geisha (from earlier in the summer, not the new one)
Brazil Fazenda Santa Helena - had this as single origin espresso tonight an=
d
it was pretty darn good
Bugisu
Yirg MAO
Harar Horse
Guatemalan Tres Marias
Moki's Farm Kona
Mexico Oaxaca
Panama Carmen
CR Select Peaberry
Kenya Githru
Any and all suggestions/requests for roasts before Saturday are welcome!

I just finished roasting a pound of SM's JBM Mavis Banks to Full City
and have it vac sealed in a jar and resting. It should be fully rested
by Saturday. I'll look at my stash and see if I have anything else
interesting.
