Today I received a new book about coffee titled: Coffee: A Dark History, by Anthony Wild. I have only gotten a few pages into it but some things are clear. It is a critical look at the history of the industry, especially for the impact on the people who grow coffee. For example he describes the problems created by interaction between The World Bank's coffee growing project in Vietnam and the big coffee companies. Wild anchors his story with St Helena by drawing parallels with the history of coffee and the history of St Helena. So those of you interested in St Helena might be interested in it. I'll post a review when I'm finished. He makes an interesting side note that I had not heard before. caffeine psychosis observed in truck drivers often has them reporting that they are being chased by a white ball of fire. Wild suggests that this may be the source of UFO accounts. Jim Gundlach "The espresso machine is an accessory to the grinder, not the other way around."
