Well - the CH-46 Gods were pleased... I made it in to Baghdad around
0130 and stayed up until around 0800 to try to set my schedule to
nights...an undertaking that I am failing miserably at! Right now 0400
local I am starting to wither! Breakfast for dinner, lunch at 0100 and
dinner for breakfast - that and switching my hours around has me in
spins!
I am living in a tent for the time being and having stuff shipped would
be difficult. I have no coffee pot until I get moved into my permanent
quarters, no grinder (my wife is sending that) and really no where to
store any stuff I get...my coffee situation has decreased dramatically.
I actually drank some nasty black water out of the silver urns - bitter
disgusting, but has caffeine which I need to stay away right now!
The neat thing - I am working in the Al Faw palace - worth a Google for
some pictures. Marble winding staircases, 3 million dollar chandeliers
- incredible where the gross national wealth of Iraq was going to! I
will post the address, but at this time I would be unable to enjoy
anything coming my way. I hope to be out of a tent and into a trailer
in a week or two - but that is an unknown at this time. At my last
location I had others to share the coffee with - not so here.
Oh well, grin and bear it.

You said you were going to the palace. I wondered if thats what you meant.

Glad to hear you're safe at your new assignment! Yes, as Darliene said, let
us know when you can accept coffee/care packages.
Take care of yourself!!

Yesterday I was extremely excited to see a blue mark near my name on the
mail list - meaning I had mail!
I was the recipient of an extremely heavy box. Inside was a BUNCH of
coffee, snacks - just great stuff!
The Washer's of NJ have left their mark on Camp Victory! I have already
passed along a few of the bags, the problem here is that I work in the
Joint Operations Center (JOC) and don't have an office, or really work
with folks who do...plus I am here at night.
The PAO folks hooked me up with a grinder and coffee pot to use - so I
finally had a cup of good coffee at the start of work this evening!
Going cold turkey for just over a week, I actually got a great coffee
buzz after two cups of fine coffee...and was in a great mood for the
first time in a few days. Turkey day had put me into a funk, especially
when my 3 yr old son started crying he wanted his daddy to me on the
phone...so the package was a GREAT distraction and timed perfectly!
Thank you Mike and Jean, you made my day!
