Does anyone know off hand if Sweet Marias will send to an FPO/APO... I
have deciced to go the French Press route, my access to a coffee pot has
been sporadic at best - and I am going nuts.
Thinking about the stainless steel version they sell, I can get a hot
water pot here that runs on 220 and toss that when I leave, but the
Press will be good for future deployments AND at home...

I was about to reply if any "vendor" would go the extra step and fill out
the custom form for military PO mailing it'd be Tom & Maria when you
answered yourself!

I like mine so much I'm going to order another one for my drip machine.
The paper filter seems to remove quite a bit of taste from the coffee.
It's so much richer when made with the gold filter.

Ordered - now I wait...
Mail gets here quicker then Fallujah, my old digs, no helos involved and
I am right next to BIAP - Baghdad International.
At this time, I am AWASH in coffee (via the Marsch's 500lb package!), my
lack of being able to brew here, as well as being new at this command
and working as a "JOCass" on the Joint Ops Center floor have limited my
potential for distro (and I work at night - so most of the folks are
pleasantly sleeping while I toil away making Power Point
presentations...)
I have two packages enroute from Fallujah, and my buddy there said one
was from Illinois and smelled like coffee...so I guess I will have more
soon! I am still in the tent, no storage or place to spread out, so I
will ask that packages not be sent. I will figure out a distro here, I
sit in front of the PAO folks, and they are good at that sort of thing!
Thanks again all!

Yes. I use it a lot to make decaf for my wife. Two things I do to improve
performance.
(1) I stuck a wooden coffee stirrer under the lip of the plastic insert so it
sits higher above the swissgold filter. That way if you have ultrafresh
coffee and it blooms the holes won't get clogged.
(2) Wet the grinds in the swissgold filter with a few drops of water first
before putting the plastic insert in place and filling with water. That also
ensures that there won't be clogging.
It's a little easier to clean than a french press, but a little harder to
clean than a melitta type pourover with paper filter. Most of us here go for
taste rather than convenience so I use a french press.
Of course you can get one of each type to see which you prefer or just to
alternate for different moods.

I love this thing.
It keeps the heat inside really well (maybe you don't want that in
Bahdad ;) ) and it makes a really clean cup of coffee. I think it makes
a better cup of coffee than a French Press or a paper filter and is
easier to clean to boot.
I've been raving about it so much I've convinced three friends to buy
one.
Cheers,
-Paul

I have one at work and one at home. I use mine at least 2-3 times a
day at work to keep a supply of delicious decaf available in between
phone calls. It's so easy. Just wipe it out with a paper towel. Just
find the best grind time and taste-wise. It's works so well.
Take care,
Ann

I like it so much I keep a couple on hand to give away. When someone
says "I love coffee, but only drink a cup or two a day...."
I tell them there are two things to keep in mind:
1. the coffee may blume causing the holes in the insert to plug up. If
you notice the water level is not going down, lift the insert about an
eighth of an inch and the water will start to flow again.
2. if you forget to put the insert in, the coffee will run down the
outside of the cup....don't ask how I know that.
