I would like to propose to the list. I noticed many times on the list through experimentation or error many good roasts gone bad. Instead of throwing them away I propose you could send them to me. I work in a Hospital ER and several of us bring our own beans/coffee grinds and make coffee for the hospital staff. The hospital provides the only undrinkable coffee I won't even put in my mouth-Maxswell House. YUCK! Most of us are not connoisseurs of coffee, just love coffee and need a caffeine fix for the 12 hr shift. I would grind these roasts and use them in the hospital. If this is acceptable and anyone is game, I will post my address. Thanks for your consideration. Joe M |
Hi Joe, This is a great idea! I really do like to roast coffee, and although I give a lot of it away, there is some (not often) that I secretly dump in the trash! The 2 pound roast I tried ended up there :( Maybe it was good, for someone, but it was an embarrassment to me. OTOH, it was probably better that what comes out of the pots at pancake houses where they just keep dumping the next pot into the last one, and much better that what you describe.. aged good to the last drop. This last roast of Monsooned Malabar, this afternoon, is very very strong! I just had a cup 10 minutes after roasting (40gr to 12 oz water in press pot). Well I finished the cup over a half hour ago, and I can still taste it! Also, the first sip gave me the caffeine jitters. Whew, I will let it rest for a few days, but if you want some of it, please let me know off list. Merry Christmas, PeterZ Joe M wrote: <Snip> |

Joe: Send me your address and I will send you beans, I wish I had read this before I just tossed almost a pound of Kenya in the arroyo... ginny <Snip> |
Thanks so much to the few people that responded. As I told Ginny, "anytime you have a bad batch or even old batch send it my way, the hospital crowd loves ANY coffee, and what people throw away is gold to them" Thanks again... Joe m <Snip> |
Please send me your address too. I am training a new drum roaster, and sometimes he doesn't behave properly... Brett: you mean, sometimes you are not behaving properly. How do you know that the "drum" is male? Is this like you buy a cabbage patch RK Drum, numbered and named? Ron you perhaps need to think about names for these "babies" before they leave the factory. ginny <Snip> |
mine is a SS trashcan made drum. And he has done some really nice roasts... But he also taught me a liuttle bit about imminent fire and seasoning a drum... Must be a he - reminds me of my seven sons.... Ron's drums would never behave this badly.... Brett On 12/21/05, badabingbadabean wrote: <Snip> he "drum" is male?
