Topic: Newbie:have grinder, have French Press, Need Beans! (4 msgs / 90 lines)

Hello all,
Well my Solis Maestro Plus grinder came today along with my Bodum
french Press. This is my first "real" grinder and my first french press.
I'm working on graduating from auto drip coffee...:). I'm going to order
some beans from SM after Xmas,(green and roasted) but for the time being I
was wondering if there were any brands of roasted beans worth buying at the
grocer. I know that may sound horrible, but I just HAVE to try out the
grinder and the french press! Also, if anyone is familiar with the Solis
grinder I have, what setting would be a good starting point for the french
press? I live in S.E. Michigan if anyone lives in the area and knows where
to get good roasted beans...thanks for all the help...

Ron,
Stay away from the grocer! Check around and see if there is a local coffee
shop. They will sell you beans. Fresh in the store is less than 6 months!
Maybe someone here on the list lives close by and can help you out with a
"care package." I know we have some Michigan roasters!

Ron,
Where in SE MI are you? I currently live in Howell, but used to live in
Westland. If you are near Canton, there is a store named Holiday Market on
Cherry Hill at Lilly. They sell green beans and will roast them for you
while you wait. Before I started roasting myself I used to buy from them.
They are much better than pre-roasted but not as good as home roast from
Tom's beans. If you are near Howell let me know and I can roast you some
fresh. I would send you some, but with the holiday mail you probably would
not get them very quickly and it sounds like you are in a hurry.
Another Mike
