Topic: a little help from my friends (16 msgs / 294 lines)
1) From: coffee
OK - 70 is too young to become senile (I hope) but I just got an email from my
granddaughter. She is craving a coffee/ice-cream drink that I used to make for
her in the late 90's. I can't remember ever making an ice-cream coffee drink!
But I can remember a period when we were doing cold coffee drinks and there
were a lot of recipes flying. Anyone got one that is to kill for? (her
expression).
John - wondering why I would EVER put ice-cream in a coffee

Don't have a recipe for ice-cream in coffee. I do however have a good
recipe(s) for coffee syrup which is good on ice-cream (among other things)
if you want it! Just click on the Rosto Mod link in my sig, then scroll done
to Kona Mocha Cheesecake link, it's there...

Thanks Mike, I knew you had a couple of those. I'm still tasting the
soy road
warrior you made for me! I don't make them because I'm already gaining weight
at the speed of light. My granddaughter tells me that it had Vanilla Bean
ice-cream, chocolate syrup (Godiva) and a double espresso shot. But I'm just
in a fog as to what I did. I was in my bold mode back then.

Absolutely the best is to use high quality vanilla or chocolate ice cream,
and a hot cup of quality coffee. Drop the scoop of ice cream in the hot
coffee and enjoy. You would not believe how wonderful it can be on a hot
day.
I called it a 'Coffee Cooler'.

Based on that information here's what I'd try. Put about a tablespoon or so
chocolate syrup in a pre-heated demi and swirl it to coat, pull double shot
into demi (preferably Kona;-), add small scoop of vanilla bean ice-cream to
fill! Thinking about it might use a 5 to 6oz cappucino cup rather than
demi... Basically making a thin mocha syrup on the fly! Oh, and finish by
sprinkling with a chopped chocolate covered Kona bean of course! Thinking
further I'd experiment with adding the ice-cream before pulling the shot
versus after, could have an interesting partial melting effect blending with
the shot and coat the remaining ice-cream with crema. Still would sprinkle
with that chopped choco Kona bean of course. Mexi-mocha variation might use
a good cinnamon stick as a stirrer.
You've talked me into it, I've gotta try that as a desert some time soon!

That's basically the way I would start a chocolate mocha for Carolyn - making
the syrup on the fly. My granddaughter said I finished with chocolate
sprinkles so I was on the right track. I guess I'll have to just make a
couple and let her try them to see which is closest to her memory.
Thanks for
the plan.
John - one more shot and I'm out of here for the night.

I just made an ersatz Mocha Frappuccino with 4 oz. each Carb
Countdown 2%, vanilla Soy Slender, a double shot of decaf Donkey, and
Steel's low-carb chocolate syrup (4g.per T). Can use Walden Farms,
which is no-cal/no-carb, but Steel's has a darker, fudgier taste. Put
it in the blender and add 3 ice cubes one at a time.

Was it a blended drink maybe? If you toss those ingredients in the blender
with some milk, you'll have a mocha shake. I make them for my nieces
sometimes.

Sandy,
Sounds excellent! My young granddaughter has always been slender and
is way too
young to be thinking about clogged arteries :0) But I have most of the
ingredients you mentioned (total vegetarian with a weight problem). When
Kelley read about the blender she lit up and said "Yeah! That's how you did
it!" So thanks for the insight.

YES! With Sandy's and your memory jog the light finally came on. I made her a
Frappuccino in the blender, covered the top with whip cream and sprinkled
chocolate sprinkles over the whole thing. My gorgeous granddaughter now has
the most incredible smile on her face - and asks me to tell you all that you
are wonderful to respond like you did! I agree!

This weekend I have a 4 year old grandson. He goes around singing
"She Thinks My Tractor is Sexy". He is one weird kid.

Its a Grandson thing! My grandson living in Ohio sent me an email
asking me how
he could build a machine that burped. He already had a theme for his science
fair project played by burps. 9 year old boys seem to be amazed when they
discover belching ;0)
