For anyone who has been holding out on getting a Presto Scandinavian
Design Coffee Maker until it was under $40, Amazon is selling it for
$36 with free shipping.

2) From: Brian Kamnetz
(Though why anyone would pay $36 for a drip coffee maker when they
could get a Krups Moka Brew for $50 is beyond me....)

Amen, Brian. I only have four KMB. And since I want one everywhere I
might go, I give them out as gifts!

Ann,
After 3 or 4 pots from the Moka Brew, I knew I didn't want to be
without this method (though my daily brew method is a press pot). When
I saw how expensive the replacement carafes are (about $50), I decided
to buy two more Moka Brews to keep in reserve. I figure I have a
lifetime supply of KMBs!

Since 3 of my family members now have them and am giving sis-in-law
another for her beach house, I need to keep replacement carafes on
hand for them, too. I sure appreciate you sniffing them out and
telling me where they are hiding. We'll just have to keep a bead on
them until they are gone.

Which Moka Brew? Can you tell me a model number?
The ones I am finding cost around $70.00.
Thanks for all your help,

There are also some not very nice experiences with the Scandinavian posted
here:http://www.coffeegeek.com/reviews/drip/presto/latestI think I'll just stick with my Melitta Clarity which continues to make
excellent coffee.

For the record, my Scandi has worked perfectly several times a day for abou=
t
4 months now. Consistent results, measured temps at 200F plus/minus 2F.
Cleans easily (unless you try plunging your hand into the carafe.) Only
negatives are minor annoyances, all avoidable by modifying cleaning and
filling methods. At less than $50 I might just pick up another one.
On the other hand, a Moka Brew I got via eBay produced off-flavors, possibl=
y
a bad unit but I couldn't find anything wrong with it - cleaned it several
times with no improvement.
Anecdotal evidence being all I have, I'll stick with the Scandi. I hope th=

Larry,
Do you still have the KrupsMokaBrew?
I've been wanting to buy/try one out for some time now!
You know what they say...one man's trash is another man's treasure!!!
Over the last 12 months I've killed 2 Melitta Clarity carafe's, broke
the bottom bowl of my 20 oz Yama vacpot, and retired/given away 3 more
drip machines.
I will either swap you for it, or ???

Sorry, Gary, it's gone. But I really think there was something wrong with
that unit - I brewed a couple of parallel pots in Scandi and the Moka Brew,
from the same roast & grind, and the latter just had this off-putting flavo=

- this before and then after a thorough cleaning. I couldn't figure out wh=

and finally gave up. With all the praise for the KMB on this list, it woul=

That's alright, Larry, I'm sure to come across a used, cast off KMB
sometime!
For now, I have picked up another 100 pack of filters for my 40 oz Chemex,
which is fine by me, as it produces a much better cup of coffee than 99% of
the machines that are available in the US market.
And if all else fails, I still can enjoy an Americano from my Livia!

I picked up one of these on Wednesday. I was able to find them at a pretty
good price too. I like the coffee this thing makes. I couldn't justify the
cost of a Technivorm, but I am glad I picked up one of these!

I found them at a local K-Mart and gave them to the people whom I give
coffee to for x-mas. Figured it was at the very least better then Mr.

I bought a couple at Sears. True to the reputation the device has achieved
-see some online consumer reviews-the first one died within a little over
one month of purchase. Sears kindly refunded the money. Hopefully, the
second one will last a little longer. It does get the water good and
hot-better, I think, than my old Melita Clarity--and I like the way the
measure of water inside the water tank corresponds to the measure of water
in the Carafe. If it lasts for a while it will be a great device.

I've had one problem with mine. When brewing, sometimes the coffee runs out
the filter, into the top part of the carafe (so far so good), but then some
runs back on the underside of the top, toward the handle, and to the outside
of the carafe between the plastic upper part and the glass. On mine there is
a gap in the plastic on the inside at the handle, so the very top of the
glass is exposed. (I hope that makes sense.) It doesn't happen
consistently, but having coffee run onto the warming plate and burn is
annoying. I've gotten in the habit of putting the carafe in part-way during
brewing, so it is tipped away from the handle but still lets the coffee flow
into it.

Good morning, Clay; I also have a unit with the same problem; only =
solved by getting a replacement carafe lid from Presto. Now the bad =
news, I recently requested replacement lids (preemptively) for two units =
I planned to give as gifts (along with some homeroast, etc.). Presto no =

don't leak the way mine did and advised me to try the other units to see =
if they leaked, and if so, then return them to the point of purchase for =
either a new unit or a refund. Not what I wanted to hear a week before =
Christmas! I was annoyed enough by Prestos response to actually try out =
both units (also too stressed to come up with a Plan B for presents) and =
neither of these two units leaked! So, if you still have the option of =
exchanging your leaky unit, that's what I'd advise you to do. When they =
work, they make a very good pot of coffee. Good luck, Linda

FYI for those of you that do not have K-Mart's in your area anymore like me,
they have these in stock online again. Now that I have my two ordered I
figured I would share J two of them plus shipping was $34 so that should
hold me until I get the Technivorm I want.

What an incredible buy. I just bought one for a backup. I wanted to buy
four and give them as Christmas gifts, but they were sold out.

Thanks for posting about this sale.
