I have two different types of "cup" brewers here - the Swiss Gold one
cup and a #4 Cone filter.
When I wake up - I grind a top full of beans in a whirly grinder, I use
the blue scoop sold with the one cupper from SM. 3 scoops for a 16 oz
cup...
When I get to work at 10 p.m. - I make a 2nd cup with the Swiss Gold 1
cupper. (same 3 scoops for a 16 oz cup)
IMVHO - the coffee from the #4 Cone filter tastes better then the coffee
from the 1 cupper...
The 1 cupper "stalled" on me also and made very bitter coffee... I took
the insert out, pour slowly over the grinds and the coffee tastes much
better.
1 - I am using 3 scoops to make a 16 oz cup in both - that is all I have
here.
2- I have a whirly grinder here and my grind varies from day to day. I
know right away when I went to fine with the 1 cupper, the cone is much
more forgiving.
As to making a pot with a pour over, I had purchased a 220V coffee maker
her for the amazing price of $5.95 at the PX. The Filter holder sits
right on top of the pot and the water pours over it...it is a white
version of the #4 cone filter holder that I purchased from SM. I tossed
the rest of the coffee maker (it was a POS) and kept the top to send
home wit the rest of the stuff (or leave behind to the next guy that
gets my job)...
Bottom line - the one cupper might make a good cup, but not at 16oz and
not with the grinder I have. With the insert out of it, it makes a good
16 oz cup of coffee... I would bet with the right grind and the right
amount of grinds you could in fact make an entire pot with the #4 cone
holder. I intend to try it when I get home...
15 and a wakeup until I depart Iraq for Kuwait!
