Topic: almost espresso from my moka pot?? (2 msgs / 63 lines)

I've had all of one straight shot of espresso in my life, and it was
naaaaasstty. I like capps and latte's but I'm sure they hide the taste of
the SO' shot to a degree so ya never really know if it was a really good
shot(unless you pull it yourself I guess). Well, I just got a moka pot the
other day and today I made my first cup. Well my second cup really as they
tell you to throw out the first one you make. Anyway, I did NOT follow the
directions and tamped the grinds which were a little finer than drip. I was
just curious to see what would happen. I had the lid open waiting for the
magic to happen(mine has holes on the sides so you can get away with opening
the lid) and then it started. It was coming out THICK! and sort of dark
crimson colored maybe? All I thought was man that looks like no other
coffee I've ever had, but it sure does look good! Soon as it was done I
poured it in a mug. Looked very thick, smelled strong. Took a sip, it WAS
strong, but it was also very sweet? I usually put sugar in my coffee and
was really surprised at how sweet it was. It was kenya #54 peaberry by the
way.
Now I know just from reading on this site that this is prolly no where near
an espresso, but if it's even 10% of what a SO shot is, I want a SO machine
darn it!!
Ok rant over...
