Topic: Aeropress question #4 (5 msgs / 69 lines)
1) From: Justin Marquez
Has anybody measured the weight of beans normally contained in the scoop
supplied with the Aeropress? It appears to be about 20% bigger than the SCA=
A
"blue scoop" sold by SM, which I think would make it about 12 or 13 grams
level capacity.
I like the Aeropress. Nice tasting brew when diluted. It says not to use
boiling water, but I boil the water and wait a little while before pouring
it onto the grinds. Doesn't taste a bit overextracted.
And FINALLY... a coffee brewing method for which Whirlyblade grinding seems
really OK!

The Aeropress scoop usually measures out to around 13 to 15 grams,
depending on bean density, size, and how full the scoop is. A dead level
scoop will run around 13 g, while a slightly mounded scoop runs more
like 15 g.
I checked this by dumping 20 scoops out into a cup on my kitchen scale
and taking the average. It ran right around 14 grams, with a +/- 1 g
variation on most scoops.

I get 13 grams with the AeroPress scoop, and 10 grams with the
SweetMaria's scoop.
Both of them shaken sideways to level.
