Topic: Alfi carafes and the merits of glass (5 msgs / 87 lines)
1) From: Scott Marquardt
I haven't subscribed to the list for a long time, but I'm a bit
mystified that I've heard no expressed opinion, one way or the other,
concering the Alfi carafes.http://www.alficarafes.com/They're glass, and unless the company creates crap so bad everyone
knows it, the wide range and price points of so many glass carafes
suggests that someone, surely SOMEONE on this list could venture an
opinion on their quality.

I never heard of Alfi carafes before. They do look nice though.
Why don't you buy one and let us know?

Very interesting, Derek. Thanks for adding that. I've kinda been wondering if I should try going glass-lined instead of stainless when I get a carafe. They are certainly cheaper and plentiful at Ross and Marshall's. I think I'll do that.No virus found in this outgoing message.

I found one of the $150 style ones at Marshals for $59. I new nothing of
the company's great reputation at the time but thought it was beautiful in
person. I put it down three times before I finally committed to buying it.
I now use it every day at work and love it. If it broke I would pay the
seemingly silly price of $150 to replace it. Jared

Done. Got two. ;-)http://www.coffeegeek.com/forums/coffee/machines/219867#topUnreal performance.
[Tom, if you're reading -- sell these things! ]
I'd say the cheapest model of these would have just as good thermal
performance. However, mouth dimensions vary, and some are curved so
that pourover cones wouldn't work (not a problem for auto drip folk).
Alan (of AeroPress) mentions that Fry's sold him an $8 glass carafe
that worked fine for him. Next time I'm in Fry's I'll be looking for
it.
My stainless Nissan is going to work with me, probably permanently.
These Alfis are for home and other social occasions. So nice. Geez.
