Topic: Alp funny business? (3 msgs / 58 lines)
1) From: Paul Goelz
Has anyone else noticed this behaviour??
After the roast finishes and the unit shuts off, if you wait a minute or so
the drum motor starts again. It appears as though the heater does NOT come
on. Sometimes the motor will start and stop a couple times, and some times
it stays on. If you begin another cycle, the motor speeds up a bit, which
leads me to suspect that there is something wrong with the motor driver.
I have no idea how long this has been happening, since I usually disconnect
power as soon as the unit shuts off. It could have been like this from the
start, but I don't think so.

Paul,
Definitely abnormal behavior. I routinely do multiple roasts on the Alp and
do not turn it off between roasts. I've not seen any of the funny business
you have described after the roast is complete, so it looks like a call to
SwissMar is in order.

Paul:
I leave my Alp plugged in most of the time and have never heard this
-- I suggest you contact Swissmar.
I've been having my own weird problem, an intermittent one: Every so
often, the heating element doesn't heat up. The Alp senses this, and
aborts at 3 minutes (reversing the drum and dumping the cold beans).
If I unplug the roaster, then replug it, the machine then works
normally. This had been going on for months, but only once every few
weeks or so, but recently it became more frequent (every 3rd roast or
so), so I contacted Swissmar and they're going to replace the machine
when they get their next batch in the fall.
