Topic: Type of grind for vacuum and FP (5 msgs / 70 lines)
1) From: Sherry
I have been reading with much interest the posts about FP and Vacuum type
coffeemakers. I remember having a very delicious cup of FP coffee many years
ago. So now to my question: Is the same type of grind used for both
coffeemakers or is one coarser than the other. What can you compare the
grind to? River sand or the finer play sand, perhaps sugar or is it more
like cornmeal?

If anyone knows a URL w/ pictures, please share.

I'm using a cona glass rod in both my Hario Nouveau and Cona vac pots. I
grind quite fine without problems. I use settings of 11-13 on my Rocky for
espresso and 25 for vac coffee. For reference,. actual zero on my Rocky is
the 0 on the dial.

Mas,
Then I should be able to stop at the local grocer and pick up a pound of
coffee off the shelf and use it as a template for a regular grind. Sounds
like a plan.

Some grocery stores have those community bean grinders with the adjustable
knob for different grinds. You could just toss in a few beans, grind them,
and toss it in a plastic baggie. No sense in buying a tub of Folgers.
