Topic: Re Aeropress brewing question (2 msgs / 73 lines)
1) From: Turbosimba
Hi all,

Has anyone else noticed how huge the Aeropress coffee scoop is? It is quite
a bit larger than a standard 7 gram ( 1tbs ) scoop that is accurate for most
other brewing methods. When I try to use the standard scoop, the resultant
cup tastes weak and wattery. Why does it take so much more coffee grounds
with an Aeropress to make the same size cup? If I used an Aeropress scoop in my
one cup Melitta filter, it would be coffee syrup. Can anyone explain the
discrepancy?

Sometimes I use a standard coffee scoop in the Aeropress, but I make it a
heaping measure, instead of just filling the scoop up to the top. Even then, the
Aeropress brew tastes under extracted.... just wondering,,,,,,

With the Aeropress, you sort of ARE making coffee syrup--a single-
portion concentrate that you dilute in order to drink. The couple of
times I used it without the proprietary scoop, I simply used two
regular scoops.
