I wasn't going to say anything but it got mentioned again and must say I'm
surprised you make such a taste compromise. Over two decades ago long before
discovering homeroasting but buying micro-roaster fresh roast whole beans I
noticed coffee didn't taste as good ground the night before so quit using
the convenience timer on the then used dripper, switching to strictly
grinding for each brewing. It is of course a matter of personal taste, but
for me Life's Too Short to Drink Bad Coffee, even pre-ground staled over
night homeroast. 100 CSA demerits.

You know what?  At 4 in the morning, I'd just use a SwissGold...I don't
think I'd even be able to bother with espresso.  If you're making espresso
that early, then you get an extra 2 points.
