Topic: my HIP is squeaking (8 msgs / 181 lines)
1) From: Ian Pacey
Friends:
I started roasting some beans this evening in my Home
Innovations Precision. When I hit the roast button, I
get a dreadful screeching. Does this mean my HIP is
finished? With each roast the screech gets worse.
I'm nervous

Actually that screeching is a 'feature' of the HWP and HIP. It is a built
in warning that you are about to ruin good coffee and possibly burn down
your house.
I'd call Hearthware customer service.

Actually, it is the Hearthware swan song that precedes imminent failure of
the unit. It is no sure thing that your house will burn down, but it
might. And I would get the thing replaced as soon as possible, like
yesterday. Now if you have one of the $45 HIG's, then you better watch
that like a hawk too because there are reports of melt downs. I am
carefully watching my own, brand new HIG and never leave the thing
unattended while it is roasting.

Fookoo Network,
How many roasts have you done on your failing HWP?

My HWP is not failing yet. First HWP got 365 roasts. The second,
replacement one, is in the 270's or so and is not squeaking or squawking
yet. All the more reason to get the $45 HIG (direct from Hearthware) for
when that time does happen. Three weeks without freshly roasted coffee is
a long time.

Fookoo,
Sorry, I mistook you for the original poster who's Home Innovations HWP was
screeching. That's the first I've heard of the white, Home Innovations
models failing...

I only roasted 47 batches. I was hoping to break a
hundred. Maybe the next unit will be better.

Ian,
At least we know the company is reputable and they stand behind the
warranty.
I just roasted my 67th batch on my white precision. No screeches yet.
Hopefully it will fail inside the warranty period or last much beyond! Good
luck.
Lee B.
