Topic: Advice on my old Unic Dive espresso machine? (5 msgs / 73 lines)
1) From: Brett Mason
I picked up an older HX machine, Unic Diva, on eBay. I just finished
getting it plumbed in and a 20amp outlet installed... SO I am off to the
races... But, it is starting to act "older" like my arthritic fingers...
The push switches open the steam valve on the wand, but don't close the
steam valve most of the time.
The espresso brew switch makes the pump sound, but no water comes out.... I
am wondering if I have vapor lock or something going on. So the machine is
turned back off for a few hours...
The water switch seems to put hot water out the hot water spigot pretty
good...
So who do you turn to when an old machine doesn't work so good? I'd
appreciate any hints, questions, or ideas..
Please help this lost farmer (never farmed) deeply missing espresso in
Eastern Iowa...

Brett Mason

Take it apart! Don't worry, it will be fun.
Unic is a good brand, but getting parts may be interesting. It sounds
like it doesn't leak and the element works, so you're in good shape.
The boiler and all the plumbing is probably very scaled. The grouphead
probably has all kinds of coffee gunk in it.

Well the Unic guru I know of is Al Critzer, who you may contact
on alt.coffee, which you can easily find by searching google groups.
