I agree, roasting really is easy. As easy as tossing some beans on a cookie
sheet and popping 'em in the oven! (open oven and stir now and then) Hey,
don't laugh it works. My first home roast, before I discovered home
roasting, was exactly that. Though it was actually a double roast of some
Sumatra we'd just gotten (from a roaster in TX) that was roasted about City
and not quite dark enough for Debi's liking, so the next morning she woke up
to her first ever smell of roasting coffee! Especially since I didn't
initially even turn on our then weak whimpy hood exhaust:-) No I didn't take
'em real dark, though darker than I do Sumatra now, took 'em to about FC+.
(not that I knew what FC+ was back then) After oven results Debi thought
much better so I considered it a success. Soon after discovered internet
home roasting resources and Sweet Maria's. Oven roasting nowhere near what I
achieve today. Then again, I haven't oven roasted coffee in years so maybe
will return to that method a bit just for fun. It may be better than I
remember with such high quality greens. Heck now I know enough to play with
oven roasted beans using different profiles!
Hmmm, it's summer and air conditioner running. Think maybe I'll wait 'till
winter. Viking oven holds heat a long time...
